So I sent the dual SU carbs from Dawn's 122 to get them rebuilt.

Original quote: $160
Price includes complete rebuild with Delrin shaft bushings, new jets, seals, etc., plus shipping and insurance, all turned around in a week. Good deal right?

Well, it gets better.

Turns out the guy looked over the carbs and said they were in really GOOD condition, and didn't need a full rebuild. He went ahead and changed out the shaft bushings as promised, changed out one of the jets that was worn, and fixed the choke mechanism in one carb which kept sticking. He included a hand-written note explaining all this, and attached a check for $50 because he didn't feel what little work he did warranted the original quote of $160.

So this is a virtual shout-out and props to Tom, who is not only honest, but a pretty stand up guy in my book. Would I deal with him again? Damn straight. In fact, I'm doing him one better and passing along his info to EVERYONE I know who needs to rebuild their carbs.

His contact info:
Tom Bryant
130 New Meadows Rd.
West Bath, ME 04530
207-443-6338

Wow! That is an absolutely great price to begin with, not to mention that he was cool enough to refund some of the cost when he felt like he didn't do enough work to justify the original cost. Great reference for anyone running SU's!!
