So, I've been a longtime member of Brickboard, but am a fairly new transplant to Portland, and a similarly new owner of a 68 145S purchased in Corvallis with 93K. Through no effort of my own, I stumbled across a link to OVT, and here I am, seemingly a perfect match.

I got the bulk of my experience on an 80 245, and while my new B18B has some differences, a lot of the old skills are returning. I'm running down your typical "just bought a new to me Volvo" list; changing fluids, checking timing, replacing consumable ignition and fuel components, etc.

As I've been doing the work, I've realized how much of this style of trouble shooting is comparative analysis. "That's a new noise", or "the squeak is louder than on Friday", or "most 140's don't wine that loud in 4th gear". All these diagnoses require exposure to a similar vehicle, which, for these pushrods, is slim to none in my book. I'm capable of continuing the work, but find myself more and more muttering "I wish I had someone experienced with these cars to listen to the noises and check my tuning efforts (especially on the carbs)".

And so there in lies my strange request. I was hoping to solicit a caring soul or two here at OVT to volunteer a little time in these efforts. I envision a few weekend hours to look over the car and offer some sage advice, and in return, along with my eternal gratitude, I'd also offer to buy you lunch.

My additional motivation is also to use this experience to help break into the OVT world, which appears to be a tightly knit group of some really nice and experienced people. "Help a new Portlander out!" as it were.

We could arrange doing this at my place or yours, at any time that was convenient. Let me know what you think!

I think I have a good knack with carbs. I came from working on old mustangs. I've only started using fuel injection in the past year or so lol. Doubt Id be perfect, but I can deffinately give you a hand with the carb tuning.

If the car's driveable bring it to the meeting and I'll tinker. I played with my '68 142 quite a bit, have a knack for getting them running better than they were, but not perfect.

Yes, Kyle was a god-send... showed me how to sync and tune the SU's on our B20-powered 122.

Yeah, that's now on my to-do list. I had planned on coming to the next meeting anyway, just to get plugged in. Nice to know you occasionally tinker there.

Side note: checked your profile and realized you were the very same Kyle at the V-shop I've talked to a few times. Way back I brought my blue V70 T5M in with coil pack harness issue. This was back in Oct when I first got to Portland.

Nice to know that you're doing what you love.

I thought I told you to do that in one of your other threads already? 8) Or maybe it was at the last meeting you were at.

Maybe we can get together somewhere earlier in the day on Sunday for tinkering before the meeting...?

One and the same!

You did offer. Just being a smart ass. Learned it form my brother. Car needs some things put back together and the "new" gas tank cleaned and installed before it goes anywhere. Thanks again.

I'll offer up my place, although North Portland may be a little out of the way...

Hahaha, that's right, your 140 needs a bit of tinkering as well... Like a transmission swap! Argh.

If your offering. It sounds like a good price.
Never cleaned one myself. Found out Mac's radiator wants $175 to steam clean and seal.
If you clean your tank sometime I am available I'll come by and watch, help, laugh, clean mine. See how it's done.

That's on hold for awhile. Now I have the 164 to play with also. :P

If you guys want to roll over here for a few hours before the meeting, I should be available from noon until meeting time. The house is a mess from tearing up the flooring on the first floor.

Portland, 97203

My cell is 503-849-6499

I'll be available from noon-ish on if you guys want to come over and tinker. I only have covered parking for one car at a time so keep that in mind if it is raining. Call first.
