Question for the vintage guys. I have the above car. The auto trans is shot. I got another to install. The new trans is from a newer model. It has the trans coolers lines. The tail housings at completely different. Can I get away with just sealing tail housings, or will the trans not work? I don't know what year the trans is from.

If you're going to be at the iPd Swap Meet on Saturday I'd like to talk to you about automatic transmissions. I've found some things out about them and I'm playing with the idea of how to get a good 3-speed auto with OD and a lock-up torque converter into an Amazon. Here are a couple of links to look at. They could help cut the cost of the swapping process. If you can swap the bellhousings on these, it should be possible to swap the tailshafts as well.

http://v1800reg.org/pages/AW70%20CONV.PDF - Very good tech article

http://bbs.zuwharrie.com/content?topic=68191.0 - This one got me started on swapping the AW71 and AW72 into things. It shows how to use the AW71 and AW72 with various bellhousings to put them into various rigs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_A_t ... sion#A44DL - A place to find what other rigs have the AW71/A44D and the AW72/A43DL transmissions.

There are some very creative automatic swaps being done by people on the Suzuki Samurai sites. You can learn some very interesting things if you go to http://bbs.zuwharrie.com/content Knowledge is where you find it.

I'm looking to get a trans for fairly cheap. I'm not sure if I can swap the newer trans in with a newer front driveshaft. Since I have the trans I might try to go that route. I'm was just trying to get it driving to sell at ipd. Not goin to happen. Thanks for the info. It will come in handy when I buy a 122 that I want to keep.
